DCTL - nmFilter
nmFilter DCTL Plugin
Capture the unique spectral essence of your footage with the nmFilter DCTL Plugin—a precision color tool inspired by the striking visuals of the 2024 Nosferatu film and the celestial mood of Ad Astra. By selectively passing and cutting specific light wavelengths, nmFilter brings a moody, otherworldly aesthetic to your images without the need for physical filters on set.
Key Features:
Wavelength Isolation: Simulate real-world optical effects by filtering channels based on approximate nanometer values for red, green, and blue.
Soft Transition: Adjust softness and create seamless fades rather than abrupt cutoff points, letting you craft nuanced, cinematic looks.
Dynamic Look Creation: Achieve the dark, surreal energy of Nosferatu or the futuristic vibes of Ad Astra with just a few slider tweaks—no complicated node trees needed.
Simple Integration: Compatible with DaVinci Resolve’s DCTL framework; apply and adjust right inside your node pipeline.
Designed for colorists, filmmakers, and enthusiasts looking to push creative boundaries, the nmFilter DCTL Plugin transforms your digital footage into something truly evocative—whether you’re channeling gothic horror or deep-space wonder. Explore new frontiers of color by harnessing the power of finely tuned spectral filtering.

1. Overview
The nmFilter DCTL is a specialized filter that selectively removes or enhances portions of your RGB channels based on approximate nanometer values. Inspired by Nosferatu (2024) and Ad Astra, this technique evokes striking, ethereal atmospheres with minimal effort.
2. Installation
Copy the
.dctl
(or encrypted.dctle
) file into your Resolve LUT or DCTL folder, typically:macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/LUT/DCTL
Windows:
%AppData%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT\DCTL
Restart DaVinci Resolve if it’s already open.
3. Usage
Open the Color Page in DaVinci Resolve.
Add a Node and apply the DCTL effect via OpenFX → ResolveFX Color → DCTL.
Choose nmFilter from the plugin dropdown.
Adjust Sliders in the Inspector:
Low Cut NM / High Cut NM: Zeroes out any channel whose wavelength sits within this “cut” range.
Low Pass NM / High Pass NM: Allows only channels whose wavelength is within this “pass” band.
Softness: Provides a smoother transition around the edges of your cut/pass bands. We recommend setting this near 100% for the most seamless fade.
Lift: Lightens or darkens the final result, letting you fine-tune the overall brightness and contrast.
4. Recommended Settings
Softness = 100%
This ensures a smoother, more filmic transition between filtered and unfiltered wavelengths, preventing harsh color edges.
5. Tips & Tricks
Emulating Classic Horror
Boost your Red channel by tightening the pass band around 610 nm, then cut the Greens and Blues for a brooding, Nosferatu-style palette.Sci-Fi Glow
Emphasize the Blue/Green channels to mimic deep-space illusions reminiscent of Ad Astra.Combine with Other Effects
Feel free to stack this plugin on top of additional color correction, film grain, or glow effects for highly stylized looks.
